Environmental Inspector/Construction Monitor Seasonal

Field locations: Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, Shingle Springs, CA

Stillwater Sciences seeks highly motivated Environmental Inspector/Biological Monitor to serve as a member of an inter-disciplinary team working on a power line project in western El Dorado County, CA near Highway 50. This position is Temporary (July 2017– winter/spring 2018) and will be based out of western El Dorado County. Ideal candidates will also have experience with nesting birds, wetlands (including vernal pools), and special-status plant and wildlife species.


The Environmental Inspector/Construction Monitor will:

  • Conduct routine environmental inspections of active project work areas to ensure environmental compliance, including on-site safety and compliance meetings with construction crews and/or regulatory agencies
  • Identify and accurately communicate compliance concerns with construction crew members, Stillwater management, the client, and regulatory agency monitors
  • Troubleshoot with construction crew members, Stillwater management, the client, and regulatory agency monitors to avoid or correct compliance issues
  • Write and maintain daily monitoring and inspection reports in an online reporting program
  • Enter field information into an on-line GIS mapping application


Qualified applicants should possess:

  • Bachelors’ degree in environmental science, planning, biology, natural resources management, or similar
  • Experience in construction monitoring
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid California driver’s license and excellent driving record
  • Physical ability to work and stand outside for long periods (potentially in adverse weather conditions), hammer stakes into ground and attach plastic fencing, and traverse rough terrain
  • Proven record demonstrating a commitment to safety

The salary range is $20–$22/hour, depending on education and experience.
